One of the most boring films in the history of bad boring films. Author Jeff Shaara originally liked the movie,  but his opinion on it has since changed. I must say, I could not read two pages where he goes on about the death of General Jackson, it is I really don't know what happened with Jeff Shaara from this book to his second attempt, The Last Full Measurebut I enjoyed this book more.
See 1 question about Gods and Generals…. I read them out of order the first time but still enjoyed each one. If he was so good and righteous like this book demands us believe, then he wouldn't have lost the war and the God that he refers to throughout his "scenes" wouldn't have abandoned him and his cause. He survives by shielding himself with a corpse until nightfall; eventually he and surviving members of 20th Maine are ordered to retreat and spend 2 nights on the battlefield, sleeping with the dead.
Well, I started with The Killer Angels a couple of summers ago and then went back to this one. I would give this movie credit as being possibly the best Civil War movie ever made! You really see the stark difference between the Rebels who loved and trusted their leaders, and the Federal armies who distrusted and disliked many of theirs.
